Thelma Katherine (Huddle) Hoskins was born February 5, 1923, in Taylor County, Iowa, to Emery and Goldie (Linebaugh) Huddle. She passed away on May 7, 2017, at the Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. She grew up on a farm near Braddyville, Iowa, and attended Pine School for much of her elementary schooling. After graduating from Braddyville High School, Thelma attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in Maryville, Missouri, receiving her teaching certificate in May, 1942.
On August 11, 1942, Thelma was united in marriage to Donald Richard Hoskins and soon after moved to the family farm. Thelma taught school for a short time and was soon kept busy with farm life and raising a family of five children. Later Thelma spent some time working at the bakery in Clarinda, but family and farm life were her priorities. She was a very hospitable, gracious person, often having family and friends into her home for meals and fellowship. She always had a large garden which kept her busy canning and preserving. Her children were often enlisted to help, both in the garden and also with farm work, teaching them good skills and work ethics. Thelma was very involved in her church, teaching Sunday School, leading VBS and serving in various positions over the years. She loved reading her Bible, reading it through each year for the past several years.
Thelma was a very giving person, always remembering the birthdays of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren plus many other relatives and friends. She greatly enjoyed reading, listening to music and watching DVDs in her later years. Having someone to join her in watching a movie was a great pleasure to her. Family was very important to Thelma and she enjoyed keeping in touch on Facebook and through email. Checking her computer and downloading pictures from Facebook were a large part of her daily life.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald, son Michael Norman, sister Edna Ruth Brenneman and brother-in-law Orval Brenneman and brother-in-law, Sam Shuttlesworth.
Left to cherish her memory are: her children, Donna (Norm) Zimmerman of Alberta, Canada, Karen (Jim) Neilson of Alberta, Canada, Arlan (Denise) Hoskins of Clarinda, Iowa, Ron (Bonnie) Hoskins of Clarinda, Iowa, daughter-in-law, Denise (Mike) Hoskins of Clarinda, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; sister Rose Ann (Jim) McAlexander of Sidney, Iowa; and many extended family and friends.
