Obituary for H. LaVerne "Butch" Cordell

Henry LaVern 'Butch' Cordell was born May 9, 1934, in rural Bedford, Iowa the son of Carl Cordell and Nettie (Evans) Cordell. Hew grew up attending country school through the 8th grade, graduating from the Sharpsburg High School with the Class of 1952. He was united in marriage to Joan Fitzgerald in February of 1955, three daughters were born to this union, Kathy, Pat and Sharon. On October 25, 1965, he was united in marriage to Faith L. Weinbrandt, adding two step-daughters, Lynn & Jean; and a step-son, Bob to his family. Butch served in the United States Army from August 1955 to May 1957, when he was honorably discharged. His first wife Joan and daughter Kathy accompanied him in Germany for 13 months.

Butch farmed and custom farmed and hauled livestock and grain to different markets in surrounding areas. He also had a tree moring business. Later he started hauling heavy equipment for International Transport which merged to Schneider Special Carriers and worked for 17 1/2 years, traveling all 48 states and Canada before retiring in September 1999. He received two Million Mile Safe Driving Awards during his tenure. Butch was also a long-time member of the Clearfield Lions Club.

Butch and Faith enjoyed their winters s[pent in Phoenix, Arizona where Butch drove a tow truck for Knowlton Towing for four winters. They moved to a small town of Surprise, Arizona and then took a job as cashier/parts sales with a large camper sales, Orangewood R.V. Both Butch and Faith helped several food programs. Butch drove a D-8 Caterpillar for Jerry Stevens of Diagonal and he also hauled hogs to area farmers in surrounding states which he truly enjoyed.

Butch was a gentle loving man, always ready to help someone and will be missed by all.
His grandchildren often told him how much they loved and looked up to him for advice.
